About Schlage

Founded in 1920, Schlage is a well-known manufacturer of smart locks and security products, with millions of smart locks sold. The company was started in San Francisco, CA, by Walter Schlage, a German immigrant from the Thuringia region.

Schlage was a bonafide San Francisco startup before it was cool! It raised an initial seed round of just $30 (not a typo!) from local investors. Its first office was located in SOMA, where the current Museum of Modern Art stands. The company later moved to the north Mission District of San Francisco, before opening its first factory at the corner of Blanken Ave and Bayshore Blvd in the Visitation Valley in the mid-1920s. Its old Mission-style office can still be seen at this site.

In the 1970s, Schlage was acquired by Ingersoll Rand, and the company was relocated to Colorado Springs, CO, in the late 1990s. Finally, it was spun out as part of Allegion in 2013.

Today, Schlage continues to be known as a leading smart lock manufacturer, with a large share of the market. Its devices are sold in nearly all major U.S. retail channels and are compatible with most smart device automation platforms, including Seam.

Schlage locks — Daylight Saving Time adjustments

Schlage locks have a known Daylight Saving Time (DST) issue that can shift access schedules by one hour during time changes. This can cause access codes to expire early or stay active longer than intended.

Because Seam does not receive timezone information from Schlage, we can’t identify which locks are in regions that observe DST. To ensure uninterrupted access, Seam has applied a preventative fix for the November 2025 fall-back transition to all Schlage locks that might be in DST-observing time zones.

During this transition, Seam automatically extends the end time of any access codes that overlap the DST change by one hour, ensuring they remain active for their intended duration.

Time zones affected by DST:

• North America: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, Newfoundland
• Europe: Western, Central, Eastern
• Oceania: Australian Eastern/Central, New Zealand

Schlage is developing a firmware update to permanently resolve this issue. Seam will maintain this workaround through the March 2026 spring-forward period.
